Excelling at Friendship

excelling-at-friendshipFriendship is not my forte.  Parties scare me and I practically dread conversations. Before going to meet with anyone, even my friends, I find myself worrying about conversations.  My first response to an invite is to freeze and panic.

My biggest fear in dating was, “What am I going to talk about.” Lucky for me I married the first man I dated, so that made life a little easier.

Extroverts, this maybe too much for you to handle, but I love to sit in silence.  Don’t freak out but I could sit all day, not talk to single person, and be just fine.

I just wanted to put this all in the open so you know I am not an expert at friendship. But despite all my relationship nerves over years, I have learned a few things about friendship I would like to share with you.

  • Love yourself.  It is hard to give to a friend what you cannot give to yourself.

  • You are loveable just as you are

  • You are beautiful

  • Dream with your friends.

  • Go a little past your comfort zone

  • Find uniqueness in each individual

  • Be willing to change a little

  • Never return a pan empty

  • Play with your friends old school style

  • The quieter you become the more you can hear

  • The older I get the more precious relationships become

  • Creativity does not kill the cat…it makes friendship more funner ; )

  • Joy is contagious.

  • I cannot be a good friend all the time and that is okay

Making friends may not be easy for me but I cherish the friends I have made over the years.  I have learned so much about the world and myself from my friends.

And even though introversion runs in my blood, I am so thankful for good friends.

Proverbs 27:9
The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume.
