“You are not the parent!”

Giving-it-to-GodI have a son who enjoys being in charge. I think it’s a first born thing. (Don’t worry! I’m a first born too.) I cannot tell you how many times I’ve uttered the words, “You are not the parent! I am! You don’t need to worry because I’ll take care of it.”
Not that long ago, I was reading my bible and having a quiet time with God when I started praying and pouring my heart out over a situation that I was dealing with. I was trying to take charge. I wanted God to handle this situation my way and I felt he wasn’t.
As I sat praying, I started to hear God speak to me (not in an actual voice, but in a tug-at-your-heart way.) I kept hearing, “You are not God. I am! You don’t need to worry because I’ll take care of it.” I crumbled! The tears began to flow as I realized it wasn’t my job to be God. Just as it’s not my son’s job to be the parent. I didn’t need to worry. I needed to trust that God was in control. And I did! My prayer completely changed and I gave the situation to God. And guess what? He took care of it. Just like he said he would in the bible.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the  Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
So what are you trying to take charge of? Is God tugging on your heart and saying, “You are not God! I am! You don’t need to worry about it because I’ll take care of it?” Whatever you may be struggling with let God handle it. Let him show you he cares enough for you to take the burden. He’ll leave you with the peace and security that he’ll take care of it. Just give it to him!
