These are goo in the middle after 25 mins. Anyone dealt with this? Made as directed. Help! They’re for a bake sale and I don’t want to make anyone sick. 😂
My husband loves these and requested them for tonight… I wasn’t paying attention and grabbed what I thought was the vanilla cake mix from the cupboard! It was actually lemon and thankfully I noticed and changed from chocolate chips to dried cranberries! Hopefully this is a crisis averted. Now he get more to enjoy, because I still need to make the original recipe!
Ummm, how much is a stick of butter? Our butter comes in 1 pound bricks, or 2 cups. That stick doesn’t look like TWO cups of butter!
One pound of butter is 4 sticks of butter, so you only need about 1/2 of a cup.
Wonderfully easy summertime treat with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Also shared this with a friend who is putting together easy recipes for her daughter to make at college.
This was SO good! I made it for my daughter’s birthday and covered it in icing. It was a huge hit at her party!
Trying this tonight, but it was still doughy in the middle after 22 minutes (we do use jumbo eggs). I put it in for 5 mote minutes and it looks done in the middle, but the ega are browned. Will have to wait for it to cool to taste test. 😋
We made them and added walnuts. Soooo good!!
Next batch we are trying a lemon cake mix with vanilla confetti chips!
I love the domain name! And the cookies turned out great! Thanks!
GREAT QUICK DESSERT FOR THE 4TH. ITS THE FIRST TIME IM TRYING. THEY ARE COOLING NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I made it. it was so simple and good.
I’m so excited! They’re cooling right now, but the house smells so good I don’t know if I can wait very long til I cut into it! I live in Canada, so I just used a white cake mix. From my understanding, yellow cake mix is just white cake with some yellow colour added. I could be wrong, but I I’ve had other types of cake mix cookie squares, so I know the type of mix doesn’t really matter. Thanks for a super easy recipe!
OMG Soooo frustrating! I dont live in USA so I don’t have he magic yellow mix cake LOL
I was sooo excited by the recipe..
thanks anyway Dawn! I LOVE all your videos and articles, huge fan :D <3 <3
You can add some egg yolks to a white cake and voila yellow cake.
I have a chocolate cake mix (that I made myself) in the cupboard that I’ve been wanting to use up, but the fam isn’t really into chocolate cake. I think this will be the perfect recipe for that! If I remember, I’ll check back in to let you know how it turned out.
I have the same recipe my Mom used from her cookbook back in the 50s/60s – was called Congo Bars ;) been around for decades!! I now make mine w vegan butter, egg replacement, & vegan mini chocolate chips (still great)!
Maria…How much of the egg replacement would you use in place of the 2 eggs? I’m using “Just Egg”….just wondering! Thanks for you help!
I have the same recipe my Mom used from her cookbook back in the 50s/60s – was called Congo Bars ;) been around for decades!!
These turned out delicious! Plus, the recipe was a great difficulty level for my two year to help make. She loves to pour & stir, and then be done — so these were perfect! LOL Thanks for the recipe :-)
Dawn ,

I have been sharing it with everyone I know :) I just welcomed twin boys the week after Dianna’s son was born :) Your videos are great and have helped me enromously with simplifying my home to have time to soend with hubby and our three Three and under :) Blessings !

Hi Dawn, I haven’t heard of yellow cake mix in Australia, can you use any other cake mix like butter cake or plain vanilla cake mix instead? Thanks 😊
Dawn,
Thank you for this recipe! My first batch I used yellow cake mix and salted caramel chips. So good. I made them again today with chocolate chips. Tasted just like Toll House but much quicker. I have shared the recipe with one of my four daughters. After three boys she is expecting a baby girl in August. We are planning an everything pink shower for her and I think strawberry cake mix with white chocolate chips would be perfect.
I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming!
Kind Regards,
Natalie Fisher
Hi Natalie, that sounds delicious, there are so many different ways you can use this recipe. What a great idea for a girl baby shower, they will LOVE it!! We are so glad you enjoy our videos, thanks so much for watching! :)
Hi Jasmyn, either of those cake mixes would probably work too. If you try it out, let us know how it goes!!
I’ll bet you can! It’s just a cake mix we have in US. I’ll bet the butter cake mix would give a similar taste. I’m thinking just has to be a cake mix.🤞🤷😁
Use Betty Crocker vanilla cake mix. It is just like a yellow cake.
I so appreciate that you shared this recipe! So easy and so good😊. I have made them before and made them today. I really didn’t feel like standing in kitchen all day making cookies. Then I remembered your. post about these cookie bars😀
These r delicious. I used half chocolate chips and half butterscotch chips. Yummy!
That sounds delicious!!
Yes, it is.
I’ve made these twice already since this video came out and have the ingredients for another batch sitting on my counter for tomorrow. So easy and delicious. My kids can help me make them too! Thanks for sharing!
These look so yummy! Crossing my fingers this works with the gluten free cake mix! 🤞🤞
Hi Sharon, did you end up trying it with the gluten free mix? How did it turn out?
Sorry for the late reply! I did use gf mix and it came out sooo yummy! I came back to this post because this is all I can think about eating tonight. Unfortunately, because of covid all of the grocery stores have been closed for a couple hours so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow, but I am so looking forward to it!
I was skeptical at first, so easy I thought “is this to good to be true?”
Soooo good! Family of five, lasted one evening. Love having a recipe and having all the ingredients on hand.
Can you add pecans?
These are fantastic! I will for sure be keeping this recipe. I think you could put any add-in that you would do in any cookie. It is a great simple cookie dough base.
Thank you for sharing!
This looks great – but I can’t make it! I’m in the UK where we don’t have those chocolate chips. Can you tell me the weight in the bag so I can replace with something else? Thanks, Isobel
It is a 12 oz bag
In the USA it would be 12 ounces of semisweet chocolate chips.
Has anyone tried this with m&m’s?
M & M’s sound amazing!!!!
Just tried them yesterday they turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!
22 mins left we can’t hardly wait!!!
I so appreciate your recipe complete with photos of the ongoing process! Thank you. : )
My family really enjoyed these, and they are so quick and easy! My husband thought they were best the second day – they didn’t last any longer than that. :)
I always put nuts in my chocolate chip cookies. Has anyone added them to this recipe?
