When it comes to gifts I really try to take to heart “it’s the thought that counts”. I try to accept gifts with gratefulness, knowing that the person gave them as an act of love. I don’t turn down gifts out of respect for the giver, regardless of if I like it or want it, but once they are gone they don’t need to know what I did with the gift. Sometimes it goes straight to the thrift store, other times I keep it for a short time as a reminder of their kindness. But I don’t worry about them noticing whether or not I kept it. Do people really do that? Do they really come to your house and search for the thing they gave you? Regardless, I just can’t worry about that. I have to be brutal and get rid of things frequently because I have people in my life who buy my family stuff so very regularly, it is literally like Christmas every month. I don’t have a big house so things can get overrun very quickly if I am not brutal. But I try to be considerate of peoples feelings by not letting them know what I am not going to keep.
