I love giving gifts that are practical and keep kids entertained! It sometimes appears as if I’m against all gift giving, but that’s really not true. I’m against thoughtless and meaningless gift exchanges that drain us of our time and money and fill our home with useless things. Big difference ;)
So this DIY Inventor’s box has become a FAVORITE in our home. You can purchase them already created OR make your own (which is super fun!).

We also created a printable label for the box so that it looks even more fun! You can find that HERE!
And here are some of our favorite items to put inside of your inventor’s box:
– Popsicle sticks
– Painters tape or masking tape
– Dowels and wood blocks
– Rubberbands
– Pipe cleaners
– Little pieces of wood and cardboard
– String
– Scissors
– Glue dots
– Skewers
– Straws
– Clothes pins
….and any other random craft supplies that you have at home!

Remember: There is no right or wrong thing to put inside! It’s meant to be random and scrappy! The more random it is, the more fun the kids will have with it.
If you want to spend a little extra, you may also want to include a low heat glue gun. You can find them on Amazon for under $10 and we’ve found that the glue sticks at the Dollar Tree work well (even though they aren’t technically “low heat” sticks of glue).

Even as I was putting this together to take pictures our kids were asking if they could pull things out of it! They have SO much fun with these simple materials, I love seeing their imaginations come to life!
We hope that you’re having a great holiday season!

Fantastic idea-
What an excellent idea! We have decided to cut down on screen time in our house and with three kids under the age of 8, it’s been hard. We have really stuck with it though. Its been about a month. For Christmas, I wanted to center the gifts more around creativity, exploration/ art, and stuff like that. I think this is such great idea my kids will love it!
This is an excellent idea! I love your YouTube channel and have watched every episode I believe! You’ve been such a source of an encouragement as we have been going through EVERYTHING and preparing to live overseas for ministry. We didn’t want to maintain a storage unit for the years we’ll be away, so have made memory boxes and are paring down to only our most treasured possessions to keep with family. You’ve helped me greatly in this process! Just recently my son needed a birthday present to give his 5 year old friend. He had the greatest fun going with me to the store and choosing every item. We went with a space theme with silver paper straws, washi tape, silver cupcake cups, battery operated silver star tealight, popsicle sticks, velcro dots, google eyes, space stickers, and a little NASA bouncy ball kit… all for $10. We printed out your label, too. It came together so well and now my son wants to save up so he can make a kit for himself! Thanks for the awesome idea!
Don’t you worry about the timing, the late shipping of the workbook. I really just wanted to support your wonderful self and family!!! Happy Christmas to all of you and yours!!!
Please advise how to order Minimal Mom at Home Workbook that is sold out. And what is the coupon code for Holiday discount as I gathered that a “rain check” type of situation is available. Sincerely, Denise Wilson- Krueger
